Most classes are suitable for anybody, whatever their exercise history. Our instructors are fully trained and experienced in delivering a workout suitable for a variety of different abilities. If you have any specific concerns, feel free to chat to the instructor before class or Contact Us
When beginning a new exercise regime, it is important to start slowly and build up gradually. Aim to work at a level which is hard enough to take you out of your comfort zone, but not so hard that you are struggling for breath. It is common to feel some muscle soreness after a new or different exercise class, but this should decrease rapidly once your muscles begin to adapt to the new demands you are placing on them. Of course, if any severe pain is felt during exercise, it is best to lower the intensity of the exercise immediately and inform the instructor
It's natural to feel a bit apprehensive when starting something new, but once the music begins, people generally concentrate intensely on the instructor or their own performance, rather than what other people in the class are doing. Chances are, you're not the only person in the room who is feeling a little nervous. The hardest part of an exercise class is getting through the door. Once you're there, the instructor will ensure that everyone enjoys and benefits from their workout.
A few tips which might help are:
- Wear clothes you feel comfortable in. There's no point wearing the latest fashion if it makes you feel awkward. Whether you feel happiest in a baggy tee-shirt or skin-tight leggings, go with your instincts.
- Find an exercise buddy. Is there a friend, colleague or family member you can take with you, even if it's only for the first couple of times? You will be able to encourage and motivate each other. It's harder to back out of going to class if someone else is relying on you. Even if it's just a quick "See you next week" to someone in the class, it will make you more determined to go back to the class and stick with it.
- SMILE! This might be the last thing you feel like doing, but it will help to make your workout more enjoyable. People might even smile back at you! If you make a mistake, grin about it. Chances are, you're the only one who noticed! Everyone else is more concerned about their own performance.
